I hear Obama wants a “global poverty fund” to be financed by American taxpayers (I thought the idea was to pay down our monumental debt, not pay out more money to lost causes). I think he should set up a fund and have the movie stars (George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow and others) who feel so guilty about the money they have earned reduce global poverty, or for that matter, American poverty as well. Obama has a huge amount of celebrity endorsements, perhaps he should pass a large urn around at Invesco Field tonight asking for donations to send to foreign dictators. That will add to tonight’s fun-filled evening.

Susan H., you are correct. Obama has already sponsored a bill (with support from Biden) that calls for an “anti-global poverty” program. Obama essentially re-packaged a United Nations proposal for this bill. It calls for the U.S. to give 0.7% of annual gross domestic product to the U.N. to spend on fighting poverty – mostly in Africa. For the U.S., 0.7% of GDP is about $65 BILLION per year. That’s the same amount Obama also wants to spend on a national health care plan.
Hillary’s health care plan is about $110 billion per year, but would cover fewer people than Obama’s. How can Obama cover more for less? Is he twice as smart as Hillary?
Why not put $130 billion into health care and let Africa handle it’s own problems? Hey Barry-boy Obama, can’t you send your half-brother George in Kenya a few bucks from your book ropyalties instead of sucking $65 billion out of our pockets?
