GOLDMAN SACHS EMPLOYEE PROVIDED SENATOR OBAMA WITH HIS TALKING POINTS FOR YESTERDAY’S WHITE HOUSE NEGOTIATIONS

From the American Spectator:

When Sen. Barack Obama was given the floor to speak during White House negotiations, according to White House aides, he did so raising concerns about a House Republican alternative to the Paulson/Bernanke $700 billion bailout. But those concerns weren’t necessarily his, as he was not aware of the GOP plan before reviewing notes provided him by Paulson loyalists in Treasury prior to entering the meeting.

According to an Obama campaign source, the notes were passed to Obama via senior aides traveling with him, who had been emailed the document via a current Goldman Sachs employee and Wall Street fundraiser for the Obama campaign. “It was made clear that the memo was from ‘friends’ and was reliable,” says the campaign source.

The memo allowed Obama and his fellow Democrats to box in Republican attendees and essentially took what President Bush had billed as a negotiating meeting off the rails.

“Paulson and his team have not acted in good faith for this President or the administration for which they serve,” says a House Republican leader who was not present at the White House meeting, but who instead is part of the team hammering out the House GOP alternative. “We keep hearing about how Secretary Paulson is working with Democrats on this or that, yet he never seems to consider working with the party that essentially hired him. Perhaps he’s auditioning for a Democratic administration job. Our proposal didn’t just spring forth fully formed; we’ve been working on this for several days, and Treasury staff has known about it.”

GARDEN-GATE

The Sun Times Reports: (Full Article HERE)

A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.

The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.

Machine politics, and Chicago-style cronyism at it’s best……let’s see if the mainstream media reports this as relentlessly as the trooper gate “scandal” and/or the bridge to nowhere…..don’t hold your breath.

FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC: REPUBLICANS ASKED FOR MORE REGULATION, DEMOCRATS DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM…..SENATOR OBAMA NEVER SAID A WORD

Posted in obama with tags , , , , , on September 25, 2008 by Ray

[PREFACE: please note, I understand that this is a complex issue. There is plenty of blame to go around in both parties, across wall street, and main street. But as we examine the primary political players who are involved-the Democrats, more than the Republicans, were on the wrong side of the issue.]

BELOW IS A SUMMATION OF THE TIME LINE OUTLINED IN THE ABOVE VIDEO

-April 2001 the Bush Administration warned of red flags regarding Fannie And Freddie (beginning of video)

-2002 Budget request warned that the size of Fannie and Freddie is a “potential problem” (0:28)

-2003 the white house warning was upgraded to a systemic risk that could extend beyond the housing market (0:40)

- Fall 2003 the Bush administration pushed congress hard for an agency that would regulate and supervise Fannie and Freddie (0:49)

- Then ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank, pushed back, stating-“we are not in a crisis”.. and…“the federal government should be doing more to get low income families into houses”…and…“too many people had a sky is falling mentality”(1:15)

-In 2005, Alan Greenspan stated: “Enabling these institutions to increase in size-and they will once the crisis in their judgment passes-we are placing the total financial system of the future at substantial risk” (2:08)

-As a counter to Greenspan, NY Senator Charles Schumer stated: “I think Fannie and Freddie over the years have done a incredibly good job and are an intrinsic part of making America the best-housed people in the world…if you look over the last 20 or whatever years, they’ve done a very, very, good job”(2:38)

-IN 2006 SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN CO-SPONSORED LEGISLATION FOR MORE REGULATION, ON THE FLOOR OF THE US SENATE, HE STATED: “FOR YEARS I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT THE REGULATORY STRUCTURE THAT GOVERNS FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC…AND THE SHEER MAGNITUDE OF THESE COMPANIES AND THE ROLE THEY PLAY IN THE HOUSING MARKET….THE GSE’S NEED TO BE REFORMED WITHOUT DELAY”(3:10)

-McCain’s bill made it out of the Senate banking committee with a party-line vote, all democrats voting against it.

-SENATOR OBAMA NEVER WEIGHED IN ON THE BILL

——————————————————————————————————-

So…as you listen to Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer bloviate today…keep in mind…they, along with many others on the left, are the ones who wanted less regulation….

John McCain Was right on this issue all along…….

Senator Obama didn’t even know there was an issue……

In fact, I still don’t think he knows there is an issue, as he continues to bask in the Florida sunshine, pretend he’s president, and learn how to not stutter during debates…..

SENATOR OBAMA YOU ARE MY SENATOR, YOU REPRESENT MY STATE……….PLEASE STOP CAMPAIGNING AND GET TO WORK…NOW

Senator Obama…

The difference between yourself and Senator McCain is…..

Senator McCain realizes he is still a Senator, who has a responsibility to serve the people…..

Unfortunately, you, Senator Obama, are a professional campaigner, who only cares about serving himself……

OBAMA AND THE MACHINE: JOHN KASS, FROM THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, PROVIDES ANOTHER GREAT ANALYSIS

Posted in obama with tags , , , on September 24, 2008 by Ray

Full article below, or you can see it on the Tribune’s website HERE

All it took was one TV ad by Republican Sen. John McCain daring to mention the Chicago Democratic Machine—the machine we’re told does not exist—to unleash Mayor Chucky.

“If people start throwing dirt and mud—remember it comes back and hits you right in the face,” said Mayor Richard Daley, snarling, pointing his finger on Tuesday, positively chuckified.

“I think, to put my brother Bill in there—they want to put me in there, fine, they put me in there all the time anyway,” he said.

The McCain ad did not put him in there. But it put brother Billy in there as a lobbyist, and the mayor kept repeating “He’s not a lobbyist! He’s not a lobbyist! He’s never been a lobbyist,” even though Bill Daley was no mere lobbyist.

Daley defends brother, blasts McCain ad Daley defends brother, blasts McCain ad

Billy was a lobbyist’s lobbyist. And when he became U.S. Secretary of Commerce under Bill Clinton, Bill Daley traveled to Prague to teach American companies there how not to get themselves shaken down by local political bosses. I’m not kidding. Now he wants to be the next governor.

Others mentioned in the ad were Obama’s real estate fairy, the convicted influence peddler Tony Rezko; outgoing state Senate President Emil Jones (D-ComEd); and Gov. Rod “The Unreformer” Blagojevich. Each was trotted out as a component of the Chicago Democratic Machine backing the machine’s own self-professed reformer, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Rezko/Daley).

Obama wasn’t born of the machine, as the McCain ad states. He didn’t sprout fully formed from the mayoral forehead. But the former independent wised up to the Chicago Way, endorsed machine stooges and was warmed by Daley’s embrace. Daley’s own brilliant spokesman, David Axelrod, the Karl Rove of the Left, began to shape Obama as a reformer.

Obama repaid them by keeping his mouth shut on corruption. His stupendous silence has allowed McCain to outflank him on the reform/”change” issue.

Despite the great umbrage taken by Daley and my own paper’s editorial board, which complained the McCain commercial engaged in “guilt by association,” the ad was supremely effective and spot-on.

Actually, it didn’t go far enough.

McCain should have also mentioned the Illinois Republican bosses who dealt with Rezko in the state pension fund investment scandal, the same GOP heavyweights accused by witnesses of trying to use their White House influence to remove U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald.

Yet now that Daley has invited McCain to make other ads featuring him, consider the possibilities:

How about Obama, standing silently as the mayor’s white friends with Outfit connections, the Duffs, reaped $100 million in city affirmative action contracts even though the mayor knew his drinking buddies weren’t black or female. Then Obama endorses Daley in the name of reform.

Or how about a little Daley and a little Obama, as happy kindergartners playing in a sandbox with trucks from the $40 million City Hall Hired Truck scandal? Or how about a President Obama dealing with a tricky foreign policy/Chicago corruption issue?

This one involves the fugitive drug dealer and self-confessed Daley administration briber Marco Morales, still fighting extradition to the U.S. from the comfy warden’s office in his Mexican prison. On the day he fled Chicago—avoiding testifying to a federal grand jury about the bribes he paid at City Hall for contracts—Marco’s son began mysteriously receiving $40 million in Daley administration business. Again, I’m not kidding.

“People love money,” Daley said Tuesday. “Some love sex. Some love drugs. Some love power. It’s human frailties. You don’t have to bring individuals down when you’re running for the highest office in the United States.”

Daley was so upset about Billy that he talked about McCain’s involvement with the Keating 5, the scandal in which McCain was reprimanded by the Senate for his ties to the sleazy savings and loan king Charles Keating, along with four Democratic senators.

The public dishonor changed something in McCain. He began railing against the corrupting influence of money in politics and began publicly embarrassing Democrats and his fellow Republicans, about their political pork-barrel deals like that bridge to nowhere.

Perhaps, he’ll accept Daley’s challenge, and the mayor will continue to publicly deny that there is a Chicago machine, deny, deny, deny, even though the Daley underlings who helped build his machine and those giant patronage armies languish in the federal pen.

“You want to get tough in politics, I can get tough in politics as anyone else,” Daley said. “When you start throwing mud, mud is going to be thrown at you and it’s going to be sticky.”

It’s frightening to think of an angry Daley, doing a full Mayor Chucky, lips curled in rage, scooping up some mud balls because he doesn’t like a campaign commercial. But just wait. If his guy becomes president, he’ll be throwing his influence around the White House.

And that might be even scarier.

LAST NIGHT ON GRETA: BILL CLINTON ATTEMPTED TO DEFEND REV WRIGHT…..COULDN’T QUITE PULL IT OFF

I haven’t seen him this uncomfortable since…..

WILL HOLLYWOOD BLAME REPUBLICANS WHEN THEIR INDUSTRY COLLAPSES?

Posted in obama with tags , , , on September 22, 2008 by Ray

Last night the Emmy’s experienced their lowest ratings ever…..what a shame…

For those who missed the show…you missed so much……

You missed the wisdom, insight, and knowledge that only Hollywood has……a wisdom that….occasionally…and thankfully…. they share with us….typically while wearing millions of dollars in jewelery, dresses, and orange spray paint all over their body.

so for those who missed it…..here’s what I learned…

Until last night….I wasn’t sure that being a community organizer was a good thing. But, when Laura Linney explained that Abigail Adams, like Barack Obama, was a community organizer….it clicked. If Abigail Adams helped the dead, and convicted felons, vote for installed machine candidates in colonial New England ( I didn’t think she did this, but Laura Linney said she did, so it must be true)……then…I guess it is a good thing to be a community organizer……and I must have it all wrong about Obama, and ACORN.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert really caught me off guard last night….they were so funny…and, of course SMART…..see Colbert was eating prunes…..prunes are old….Jon McCain is old……also, they made some correlation between prunes and George Bush!…..ha….George Bush…I love when I hear a George Bush joke….they are so infrequent, creative…..and most importantly brave…I’m so happy Colbert and Stewart went out on a limb…..can you imagine if they went down that tired old path of making fun of Obama’s teleprompter, lack of experience, ties to fanny mae/freddie mac, or relationships with strange people…….boring…..or should I say, racist!

One of the Smothers brothers received an award for…..nothing……honestly, I think he got the award because he didn’t receive an award years ago……but, I know he deserved it………anyway, his acceptance speech was inspiring……I couldn’t really understand what he was saying because his speech was slurred, his point was muddled, and his delivery was off…..but, I’m pretty sure he was saying something bad about George Bush and McCain/Palin……the audience made the same conclusion and mindlessly cheered in agreement…..it was a touching moment…

At this point…unfortunately….I had to stop watching the show…..

I heard Tina Fey showed her courage by making a snide comment about Sarah Palin……good for Tina…….someone in Hollywood needs to speak out about Sarah Palin……

Anyway….while I understand that the Hollywood elite are so much smarter than me (despite their lack of education and critical thinking ability)….I’m afraid most Americans don’t feel this way….

The most successful TV show (American Idol) has stars that aren’t celebrities….

The most successful television genre….reality television….doesn’t involve celebrities…

And now….Americans aren’t watching celebrities receive meaningless awards, for meaningless work….

I’m concerned…..

But, I’m hopeful…..

I know this is George Bush’s fault….once he’s out….Hollywood will be back…

And we can all be thankful for that…

BILL ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL…..FOR McCAIN-PALIN

From correspondents in Washington

Article from: Agence France-Presse

FORMER US president Bill Clinton has cast an approving eye at Sarah Palin’s political skills, but would not be drawn on whether his wife Hillary could run for the White House in 2012.
Mr Clinton, acclaimed even by his enemies as one of the most consummate American politicians in recent history, said he did not agree with Republican vice presidential pick Mrs Palin on politics, but warned fellow Democrats not to underestimate her.

“She’s an instinctively effective candidate and with a compelling story,” Mr Clinton said in an interview with CNBC.

“I think it was exciting to some that she was a woman,” said Mr Clinton.

“I think she, I get why she’s done so well. It’s a mistake to underestimate her. She’s got good intuitive skills. They’re significant.”

Mr Clinton said he thought Republican presidential candidate John McCain, a Vietnam war hero and veteran lawmaker, was a “great man” and that the election on November 4 would be close, but he predicted Democrat Barack Obama would emerge triumphant.

But if Senator McCain should win, would Hillary Clinton, who narrowly failed to capture the Democratic presidential nomination this time around, challenge the Arizona senator in 2012?

“I don’t know,” Mr Clinton said.
