I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has spent time here at Chicagoans Against Obama. I want to let you know how much your feedback and participation has meant to me. When I started this site several months ago, I did so not knowing that this would turn into what it is today….truthfully, I didn’t expect anyone other than friends and family to read what I had to say….and even with them, I thought they would check my site out once, and be done….
As I write to you this morning…it is very hard to find the words to describe how I am feeling….
I, of course, am deeply disappointed….I feel that our country has made a conscious decision to fundamentally change many of the principles that have made our great nation prosper over the years….
To counter a Presidency, that at times has leaned far right…….we are now moving far left…..
Some voted for Obama because they want to end the war….the reality is….war is a two-way street, and will only end when others also want to end it….
Others voted for Obama because they want the economy to improve……so do I…..I find it hard to believe that increased taxation on small businesses will stimulate our economy….history shows us this will not be the case…..but I hope……I…….and history……..are incorrect….
This site spent much time focused on the failures of Chicago’s political machine and Barack Obama’s inaction as a state senator, and US Senator…..the reality is, the results of these failures (highest murder rate in the country, highest sales taxes in the country, public schools under-funded and mismanaged, public hospitals being mismanaged, infrastructure falling apart, high unemployment) are still seen, and felt, today….and will continue to be problems that we will face every day moving forward….
Also, I spent a great deal of time examining Barack Obama’s many questionable relationships and ties…I do not regret doing so…..In all honesty, I hope that these ties prove to be innocuous…and not a predicator of future decision making…..
With this being said……
I have one choice…and one choice only….to issue my most insincere mazel tov….to Barack Obama, David Axelrod…and crew…….I am not going to pretend to be happy today…because I am not….
As I walked to get coffee this morning….many were wearing their Obama lithograph pins and t-shirts…..prominently displaying the face of their candidate….
And, to these people……I can only say one thing….
you are wearing the campaign paraphernalia of a great politician, and of someone who has achieved much personal accomplishment…..at the same time, you are also wearing the paraphernalia of a man who has yet to achieve much for anyone aside from himself….while I understand your happiness today, remember that Barack Obama’s greatest challenges are still ahead of him…
….I wish him much success…as his success, is the success of this great country, in which I love so much…
When I was 7 years old I memorized this line from Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream speech (that year, my dad made me call all of his coworkers and recite this to them, on Martin Luther King Day, as he was so proud):
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
These words have always meant so much to me…..they of course still do….
In my mind…there are…and were…many reasons to oppose Barack Obama…..
..race is not, and never was, one of them….
So as I leave this blog behind (with a name like “chicagoans against Obama” my time was always limited)…I do so with a clear conscience…..
While I understand some of my posts may have angered some…..that was never my intent…
I hope I made some of you laugh….and I hope I made some of you think…if so, then I feel like a part of my mission was accomplished….
So, as I say goodbye to Chicagoans Against Obama
I want to let you all know…that I am not saying goodbye to the blogosphere…..
While I do plan on taking a break…..
I plan on returning…….
I have a blog that I will be starting called the New School Republican…and I also plan on working on a joint project with the creator of Hillbuzz….
I will continue to blog from my centrist point of view….never forgetting the great bi-partisan dialog that occurred among the many Hillary and McCain supporters…
Two groups of people…..who just months ago thought they had nothing in common…..but today realize how little they differ……
It is hard to believe the end is here……
It is very difficult to say goodbye….
but unfortunately, it is time to do so…
